I have a thing for shades.
Someone told me over and over again that my work was very "Nick and Nora." I don't know what that means other than a sub-par hipster movie with a killer Mark Mothersbaugh soundtrack. Perhaps that I draw too many owls and norwhals... Perhaps this friend is really just a middle aged hipster who has a thing for Michael Cera?
So back to the fine arts roots I go. Or at least fore a little.

My current favorite book of the moment: Zeitoun by Dave Eggers
I can't stress enough how important this book is. It's a true story of a Muslin Syrian-American man who helps the victims of Katrina by rescuing them in his canoe. What happens through the rest of the book is equally shocking and moving. It's one of those books that when you put it down, you're replaying the events throughout your mind for days after.
What's also amazing... Dave Eggers is (from what the wikipedia bird says) not profitting from this book but instead the money is going to The Zeitoun Foundation.
This will be a movie for sure...

I've decorate my wall.
So, this is now on my bedroom wall. Part One of the decorating stage. It gets a little weird when the crows outside start squawking....

FANTASTIC line from the new movie about Facebook.
From The Social Network: A movie about Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg's start in the tech world.
MARK: You're really leaving?
ERICA takes MARK's hand and looks at him tenderly...
ERICA: Listen. You're going to be successful and rich. But you're going to go through life thinking that girls don't like you because you're a tech geek. And I want you to know, from the bottom of my heart, that that won't be true. It'll be because you're an asshole.
Ladies, how true is that line with so many tech guys?
This movie comes out in October. Get ready, facebook.

INSANE 80's Commercials - Teddy Ruxpin
I can't believe as a kid I owned one of these. And not only owned one, but took it everywhere with me.
And how did this appeal to kids? Franken-Teddy is just a little too creepy...

I heart creamsicles...
filed under: Another drawing for the fridge.
There is an ice cream truck that comes to our adult whiffle ball games... which is fantastic.
French Fry holder for your car?
Wow... this makes me a little sad. Does it come with a robotic shovel that hauls french fries into your mouth? Let's make eating greasy fast food easier for an already unhealthy country.

French Strawberry & Blackberry dessert crepes
After watching Julie&Julia, I became a little inspired to cook. So I used Julia's recipe for French Crepes and my own recipe for Strawberry & Blackberry baileys sauce.
For a few summers in high school, I used to work at this little French Creperie in Kennebunkport. The Creperie, Oo La La, was owned by this fantasically eccentric woman named Rocky- who I'm still not sure if that was her real name. It has been years since it went out of business but the Crepes were amazing.
It's been a while so I set off to make some of my own.
Here's how to make these:
Step 1: Make a really messy kitchen.
Julia's French Crepe batter:
Ingredients
2/3 cup cold water
2/3 cup cold milk
3 eggs
½ tsp salt
1 cup flour (scooped and leveled)
3 tablespoons melted butter
Blend and chill in fridge for 30 minutes.
Brush melted butter on skillet on medium heat. Pour 1/3 cup of Crepe batter on hot skillet. Flip like a pancake.
Lola's Strawberry~Blackberry Liquor Crepe filling
Ingredients:
1 1/2 cups of crushed strawberries and blackberries
3 tablespoons (maybe a little more?) of Bailey's Irish Cream
2 tablespoons melted butter
2 tablespoons sugar
Mix all ingredients together. That's it.
See photos below to see how to put these things together.
Use cream, powdered sugar and cinnamon to garnish.
